About the event

The Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) Children’s Art Centre and Regional Services are delighted to present APT10 Kids on Tour for children and families in regional and remote Queensland.

APT10 Kids on Tour has been developed to coincide with ‘The 10th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’ (APT10) and APT10 Kids, on display at QAGOMA from 4 December 2021 to 25 April 2022. This program will enable children to explore and experience a range of contemporary art styles and approaches from Australia, Asia and the Pacific through activities celebrating diversity and community, and encouraging mindful contemplation.

APT10 Kids on Tour includes activities created by the Children’s Art Centre in collaboration with artists Shannon Novak (Aotearoa New Zealand), Phuong Ngo (Australia), Syagini Ratna Wulan (Indonesia), Jamilah Haji (Thailand), Gidree Bawlee Foundation of Arts (Bangladesh) and Vipoo Srivilasa (Thailand/Australia).

Since 1998, the Gallery has collaborated with more than 290 Australian and international contemporary artists. The Children’s Art Centre is a leader in developing interactive projects, activities and publications that engage children with contemporary cultures, artists and ideas.

The Kids on Tour program provides this content free of charge to communities throughout Queensland, allowing venues in regional and remote areas the opportunity to present innovative hands-on workshops for local audiences.

QAGOMA gratefully acknowledges the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation’s generous support of APT10 Kids on Tour.

Activities on offer:

'Garden of Love' Vipoo Srivilasa - Choose a flower template to decorate or write a message of love to the people you love and have missed.

'Mudam.gi: Uramat Fire Drawings' Indigenous Uramat Identity Papua New Guinea - Posters will be on display featuring children's drawings from Mudam.gi: Uramat Fire Drawings 2021

'The Sacred Hill' by Gordon Hookey, Waanyi people, Australia b. 1961 - Read through this great book and enjoy more than 20 painted illustrations by the artist, then draw your favourite character from the story!

'Atom' Syagini Ratna Wulan, Indonesia b. 1979 - Inspired by traditional mandala-making Ratana Wulan has created five mandala designs that children can choose from and transform with colour and pattern in the activity Atom 2021. Mandalas are circular artworks used in some spiritual and religious practices to create a sense of wellness.

'Happiness and Wishes' Jamilah Haji, Thailand b. 1989 - Haji invites children of all abilities to think about what makes them happy and what they wish for. If you had one wish what would it be? Draw your wish as you imagine it. Write a story where your wish comes true. Write a poem about something that makes you happy.

APT10 Kids on Tour is free QAGOMA Touring program available to regional Queensland communities, with thanks to generous support from The Tim Fairfax Family Foundation.
